If this is your first BMW, or you're not going to do the work yourself, I'd stay away from a 200K 1980 745i.

Sure it's nice and it's probably fast, but 745i's are not for the uninitiated.

A 1980, depending on shape, isn't worth more than $2500, and if it needs a tranny, driveshaft, front end work, rear suspension work, exhaust work, turbo work, cooling work, or A/C work, is worth even less.
