Nick, What a car is worth depends so much on it's condition. An 80 745 with 110,000 miles (180000 KM) can need $10-12K worth of work at retail if you need A/c (electronic controls, blower, vacumn switches, condenser, reciever dryer, compressor), suspension, brakes (calipers, rotors, booster, master) transmission work, exhaust, body work and paint, or it might just need like you say a lot of TLD that won't cost you a lot of money, just time. Remember you're looking at a 21 year old car. A car that is prisine in all respects can arguably be worth $7-8K, or a running car could be worth $500. Depends on what it needs and what the seller will take. Ultimately a lot of these cars end up going to the wrecking yard and the owner pays $35 for the tow. A 745 is unique and there is not a lot of dealer or mechanic knowledge about them. You best source is other 745 owners. I've had 8 e-23 for the last 16 years and have had a 745 for 5 years. Once you learn your car and become self sufficient it's no problem. To properly paint any BMW with urethane paint removing all the trim and bumpers, with labor and materials is $2,500. But you can get a $125 enamal job that may be ok for some people. It just depends what your standard is. The are many classic cars out there that people have spent $20K restoring and then have to sell at market which might be $6-7k. All depends on the situation. steve Hi, I have a chance to get a euro 745i turbo that runs and drives but does need a little TLC. What should I look to pay for this? It has 180000KM on it and it has had a rebuilt turbo and many new parts. I think he said it was a 1980. I just have no idea what its worth.
