Martin,
I had a very similar problem that I fixed yesterday. I spent 16 hours total over several months trying to figure this out so maybe I can send you in the right direction. First of all check the hot water soloinoid that opens the heater valve. It is located by itself on the right side of the center console. Trace the red and green hose back from the inside of the heater valve and they go to this soloinoid. When you turn the blower switch to off it should open up if it is working. If your solonoid works, Check the temperature switch under the blower motor. I have a spare and I swapped out the old to test it. If that dosn't work, Check your control unit on the drivers side of the center consol. As you turn the temp wheel incrementally it should move the rod slowly. Mine didn't move at all so I put my spare control unit in and this fixed everything. Prior to this I only had fan speed at full, and changing the resistor boards had no effect. Now everything works perfect. For me it was the control unit. I can fax you the Mitchell repair manual pages that I used if you want them. The wiring diagram was invaluable as I ultimately just worked my way backwards to anything that inputed the signal.

MUCH THANKS TO JENS, RANDY AND BRUCE WHO HELPED ME ON THIS ONE. steve

This morning I got into the car and the heater didnt work. After some investigation I found that the vaccuum valve mounted on the firewall was being held shut (ie vaccuum was being applied to it!) I disconnected the tube rtunning to it and blocked the tube off. What should I do now? why all of a sudden has this fault appeared. I do enjoy my 735i but it does seem to have a tempermental nature....

Martin.
