Your problem is possibly the heater core valve
which is no longer stopping the flow of water thru your heater core. If the production date
is pre 3/88 you can order a rebuild kit for
~ $27 dollars. By now the rubber inside the
valve is usually broken down. The valve it self
is ~ $100. Hope this helps.

Jens or Lars or ther experts:

please help
My 88 735i with 299546 original miles has heater shutoff problems. The AC is defeated because the heat will not shut off, it seems
I admit that I took it to local jiffy lube guys to change the coolant last fall and they did not know what made the temp gauge run into dnager zone as I was pulling out of their shop. I refused to drive the car and they called someone frantically and he came over and bled the thermostat nut on top an they refilled the coolant and this spring i have noticed that when I need AC the cold air comes on but the heat also is on.
Thanks
Please help
