I had the same problem with my 83 735i. It was the only interior fault. For me a good economical solution that looked fine, was to have a black dash mat purpose made to fit. Even if I had paid a lot more to have the dash recovered, I still would have put a mat over it to protect it so I figured why not go with a good looking black dash mat. Mine cost $35 U.S. installed, a recovered dash was going to be about $150 U.S. with me taking out the dash.

I live in Australia so things might be different over there...

Whats the best solution to a cracked dash on an E23. Can I change it out, cover it, or just live with it?? A cracked dash board is the one thing that detracts from a nice interior.
