Good insurance is to remove and throw away the high speed temp (99 degree) switch and in its place put in the low speed temp switch (91 degree). Then buy an 82 degree temp switch for the low speed. This will turn on the aux fan at a lower temp and should decrease your stress level when sitting in traffic.

I can't comment on the function of the clutch since I've read that if you can stop it with a rolled up newspaper then it's defunct, but others have rebuffed that one. Try spinning it by hand. A good rule of thumb is that if it spins more than 2 or 3 times then it could be bad.

I have now put on my second new fan clutch and still getting the same results. I always thought that when the fan got hot that it would lock up more to pull more air. Mine seem to get looser and allow the engine to run hotter. It never over heats but it will run the neddle up about 3/4 of the way. The aux fan kicks in and both speeds seem to work fine but on the Interstate the needle runs just under half. Temp only runs up when you get off and get in traffic.

The fan at this time is so loose that it is hardly spinning. I am using the Sachs fan with the 32mm nut on it, part number 11 52 486 000 from Bavarian.

Thanks for any help in adavance.
