A follow up:

Temp Gauge doesn't work

I took the instrument cluster out the other day and checked it for loose connections - couldn't find anything obvious. While I was in there, I replaced the Ni-Cd's which has solved my "Inspection" light problem. I put it all back together and my temp gauge now works - more or less. It still jumps around a bit and occasionally doesn't come to life, but works most of the time. Open closer examination of the schematics, I found that the signal from the temperature sender actually runs through the Service Interval Processor board, rather than just on to it - any fault or loose connection on that board is also going to affect my temp gauge. Since the first green LED in my S.I display also flickers on and off sometimes, I'm sure I've got a problem in there somewhere - probably in those flat ribbon cables or their connectors.

Hopefully this will be of some use to someone else as well..
