Winston may be right. The temperature sensor on the evaporator is factory set for 41 deg. If you are getting vent temps lower than 39 or 40 deg. with r12 (cant get those temps with r134a) it may be frezzing up!

Do the exposed metal lines at the firewall under the hood sweat and freezeup with ice?

What was the switch under the dash that you replaced? Expansion valve maybe?

Try running with some heat dialed into the temp selector and see if that helps make it last longer.
