Hi Joe,

I paid less than that for the '85 I recently bought as a Valentine's Day gift for my wife. Had about the same mileage. However, I had quite a "to do" list that came along with it.. Some of the items were:

1) repair speedometer;
2) repair A/C;
3) fix cruise control;
4) plus a bunch of nit picks (new tool kit, first aid kit, leather conditioning, head lining on sunroof, improve horn, upgrade speakers, new floor mats, new center grill, etc., etc., etc.)

The motor, transmission, body, and interior were in great condition. So that was a good start. I've fixed the speedometer, the A/C, and many of the other items. Just been taking my time, learning from this board, and applying whatever I learn to address the items on my list.

Kate loves her car, and the folks on this board have been very supportive, both in helping me locate good deals on parts and providing sound and detailed advice on repairs.

Even though it's an older car, it's probably as good or even better than many cars built today. Most people who bought these cars in ~1984 had the resources to make sure they were kept in pristine condition. Afterall, in 2001 dollars they probably cost around $90K. Can't say someone who buys the average car today would treat their car as well. And hardly anyone purchasing the average 1985 automobile would have done so...

I'll probably buy another 735i (or 745i), again. There's a lot of value there.. to me, anyway.

Rick
