In my opinion, at $5500, you're looking at the very high end on pricing and will be quite upset if you find yourself with a substantial repair bill because you overlooked something. I echo what RickOregon says about the appeal of these cars, but you should spend the money for a serious and detailed checkout to make sure this is not going to be a budget breaker. Perhaps budget is not an issue.

I have said this many times on the 6 series board. It's not uncommon to hear about buyers spending 30 to 50% of the purchase price in the first year of ownership for unexpected and overlooked repairs and spiffing the car up to your standards. If you do that, then this will be a total of $7000... or a very expensive 85_735i.

Now the good news. There is no other car on the market that will deliver the luxury and performance of this car for $10,000..... They are fantastic road cars and will deliver you on long trips quite comfortably,,, (If you solve and maintain the notorious HVAC problems).

In fact, many people are paying $500, and more, each month for a lease payment, and still dealing with unexpected repairs. With these cars, you generally own the title and can budget for the repairs.

Frankly, I will probably never drive anything else.

You may want to see if the price is negotiable, and the best way is with a checklist from the checkout, noting needed repairs. That's the only informed way to buy these cars.

Example: I know where there is a 1984, good-looking, imminently drivable 733i for $2500, but after my own experiences with these cars, even at that price, I'd pay $200 to have it gone over.
