Indeed he is. BMW driveshafts do not have replaceable u-joints. There are a few rebuilders out there, but I found that I could buy brand new as cheaply as rebuilt. The only positive to going the rebuilt route would be a switch to replaceable u-joints on the rebuild. My advice is to go with a new driveshaft for about $450.
