I'm thinking of buying a 1985 - 735i with 125k on the clock
for $5500 bucks. The car seems in very good condition and
currently the A/C is working properly. From reading this
board, the A/C seems to be a major problem with this year
and model. Are there any big bucks other problems common
to this model. Any insight would be great. Thanks
hi,joe, what a load of crap people have been telling you i have two 1985 735i one has 190000 miles on the clock the other has 226000 miles on the clock .each one of these cars has been an absolute delight to own and drive.neither of these cars has EVER let me down as for a/c problems i have them regassed every two years and you must run the a/c for at least ten minutes every two weeks to stop the seals drying out in the pump. mine are still the original ones as for prices people were telling you for repairs more crap ! a/c pumps are £50 overhere gearboxes are £275 EXCHANGE even with shipping cost thats still good value,as for buying a merc boring, ugly pieces of junk on wheels .go with your heart buy it i wouldnt hesitate regular service is the key,i have tons of unused spares that i would be more than willing to sort you out if the need ever arose good luck
Golly, Ray...talk about adding insult to injury. I'm trying to figure where to come up with the money to pay for all the broken things on my car. To have you tell me I'm full of crap - that my problems don't exist and that they're all cheap to fix - seems a little out of line. I just made a list of my car's problems. I don't care if you think I'm full of crap or not, but I wish I could do something about the load of crap stuck in my driveway.
...and very seriously...if you can get a rebuilt 4hp-22, non-electronic transmission shipped to me in California for less than $1,000 USD-please tell me, so I can order one. According to you I can get one for $385 USD (current exchange rate to pounds). I haven't been able to find a used one for that price. I'm also interested in the A/C compressor parts.
Joe, don't listen to your heart without listening to your wallet. Your heart's going to be mighty disappointed if your wallet can't keep your 735 running. If your wallet can keep it running, then buy and enjoy. They really are wonderful cars to drive.
