Part of the reason we maintain our independence is so that we have the liberty of deciding whether or not we want to drive an unreliable rust bucket, or keep our beloved cars properly maintained. I gather that, by proclamation, you do not have that choice.
Anyway, the down side for us is that we often do not have the benefit of service records and inspections. It's all very provincial, with few federally mandated standards. More states and communities are adopting maintenance and emmission standards, but in my 40 years of driving, and living around the country, I have never been subjected to those controls. I have seen some real Crap passed off as roadable cars, including BMW's.
Just kidding with you, somewhat! But, serious about the differences between what we have to choose from vs. what I think you deal with in Europe. Correct me if I am mistaken.
