Part of the reason we maintain our independence is so that we have the liberty of deciding whether or not we want to drive an unreliable rust bucket, or keep our beloved cars properly maintained. I gather that, by proclamation, you do not have that choice.
Anyway, the down side for us is that we often do not have the benefit of service records and inspections. It's all very provincial, with few federally mandated standards. More states and communities are adopting maintenance and emmission standards, but in my 40 years of driving, and living around the country, I have never been subjected to those controls. I have seen some real Crap passed off as roadable cars, including BMW's.
Just kidding with you, somewhat! But, serious about the differences between what we have to choose from vs. what I think you deal with in Europe. Correct me if I am mistaken.
i see, youleave us over tea,and now you all drink coffee..!! we still have our fair share of junk on the road but given our annual testing of all vehicles they are becoming rarer, also the impression we have in blighty is that most of you drive new v8 chevy or cadillacs so e23 must be very rare,so we would asume that the ones remaing would be much sort after.or ones that have been done to death. i now take your point that we are more fotunate in that we seem to have a cheaper secondhand car spares network than you do and more firms dealing in classic car parts at a fraction of the cost you pay. i hope this helps our understanding of each other,as you can see i have a passion for e23s and their demise is a great shame....anyway if i can be of any help forspares i will gladly help in anyway.........your english cousin ray
