Drove back from Houston today. After the first 10 miles the speedo jumped backed to life and worked fine the rest of the way home. I did check the connection at the rear diff. and found it to be okay. Probably an electrical connection, but not sure exactly where. I suspect something to do with the instrument cluster.

We were able to cover the 520 miles in 7.5 hours - and still got 24 mpg. What a great car!
