1984 733i OBC woes (archive)

Hi Group:

My OBC is doing some strange things. It is sometimes on (display working), and sometimes not. Going down the road, it will suddenly go blank, and the gong will sound, and it sounds as if the horn is blowing for maybe ten seconds, and the horn stops. If you stop the engine while the horn is blowing, it won't restart for a minute of so.

There are no leaks, so is the brain toast?? The display unit has a non-functional 1 digit, but otherwise it seems OK.

Are used OBC brains expensive??
