I'm pretty sure its "the bomb" but I need to be sure. When I go to hit the brakes in my 82 733i they seem a little hard at first but if I have to do a panic stop they are hard to the point that I'd probably rear end someone becasue they dont respond fast enough. They are also too hard to push the pedal down to lock up the tires before I move about 2-3 car lengths, then the brakes get soft and start to respond. At first it seem like I have no power brakes or the car is fighting back, then it gets soft and I can stop. But it mostly does that durring panic stops of hard braking.
Also when ever I hit the brakes the brake light flashes on, but in a few cases, after I adjusted the fan belt to the proper tension (it was too loose), the brake light comes on and stays on for a few minutes.
Thanks,

I am experiencing the same problem with my '80 733. What is "the bomb". Thanks
"The bomb" as far as I know it is a pressure accumulator that is black, it also looks like a bomb. Its located on the drivers side right next to the power steering resivior, and under that splitter type thing (the thing that sends fluid to the power steering and master clyinder/booster).
