Mine did that about 3yrs ago---it ended up idling at 2000rpms before it was fixed. Didn't cost much to have it done at the shop. About 300DMs--ahh I think that was about 140$ at the time.

I've had the same not on my E23, but on my E36 325i!!! Looks like a typical bimmer familly problem?
