How do I explain my driving both here and in the US? Here I drive in the fastest lane. To you in the US you drive in the far right and the left lanes are for passing only--you get the heck out of the way if someone comes up behind you--and they do--FAST! I was going 180K one day--that's about 120mph and a Benz came up behind me and flashed their lights. They whooshed by me after I moved. And I mean whooshed. WOW! All that guy needed was wings! I dart in and out according to traffic and stand on it wihtout looking at the speed.
My husband works about 20 min from our home. (he drives about 70mph) (he's an EMT so to him Speed=mashed humans) It's up a steep twisty mountian road (your ears pop half way up.) Then a straight shot to his work. I've done it in the dark with the dash lights out in 7.5 min. ( he got me up because he was late.)Jens--Its the A6.
In the states--I got lots of tickets. Plain period the truth. My insurance was way up there. But I drove like I do here for the most part. I used to work nights so I could have the road mostly to myself.
As far as women who don't like to drive in the US---American men have such big egos for the most part that they have to drive--us women know how to keep the peace and let the boys play with the toys. LOL Friendly teasing here guys!
And as I said in the US people rarely rode with me twice. I got my god Shawn, aren't you scared of a tire blowing? Which brings me to the inspections here---if I maintained my car like most Americans do--I'll fix it when it breaks--I would be afraid of going fast as well.
And I will say that most cars you see in the US with a male and a female in them---90% or better it will be the guy driving. Here it seems to be about the same. Only thing I don't hear in Germany, is the bad women driver jokes. I get the male ego when I go to get parts, that's horriable here.
So it may be that less women have a need for speed than men--at least out loud.
