It is a micro switch, located near the throttle plate: usually covered by a rubber boot (about 3-4 inches in diameter). There are actually two switches, one for full open thrttle and one for throttle closed. (at least on my 1984 model) I believe the purpose is to enrichen the mixture when the throttle is fully closed at idle.
