Hello,
I have a '84 bmw 733i and I am having a problem with hesitation. The car starts and idles fine. When in park I can give it gas and there is no hesitation when I rev the engine. But when I put it in drive and take off it starts to hesitate then shifts into the next gear. (It is an automatic.) It will gradually level out then as it builds up speed it hesitates again until it levels out around 55 mph. The speed never gets higher then 60 mph.
I have changed the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, throttle position switch and mass air flow sensor. Even used techron fuel injection cleaner and higher octane gas. Even use octane booster. I have a new distributor and rotor buttons, plugs and wires. I did even disconnect the O2 sensor to see if there is a change in acceleration - and there was know. My last shot is the ECU. They are expensive but I don't no anyone in my area - the Outer Banks of NC that will test it. A few places in (60 miles away)Va Beach, Va will test the ecu but only while installed in the car.
