Hey board,
Were 745i's sold in the US...because everyone that I have seen has been a Euro model--one had German lettering! The other didn't have US spec bumpers...what's the deal?
745i was never officially imported to the US. The ones you see here are all "grey Market" Cars. When they were Federalized (DOT) they got reinforced bumpers but not the US shock absorbing ones. Head lights were changed to US spec and for EPA reasons Catalytic converter with O2 sensor were added. My 745i was also licensed in CA, and later in VA.
The leetering remained German with the exception of the Speedometer.
Some owners have removed the Cat and or the US lights and reinstalled the euro lght which are much better.

Hans
If you ask a dealer now, they would say no. However, many of these sweethearts WERE brought over by US BMW dealers and DOT'd... Some, many, made it through with euro spec's in place with the emissions being the only modification, these were by compliance importers... Meaning, euro dashes, large small headlamp combo's, etc... Many of the dealer versions were the ones striped of there euro identity. The cluster, dash lettering, and bumpers....
Hope that clears things up...
