hello all,

2 days ago my 745i was making a slight "grinding noise" while accellerating. at first i thought transmission. i checked the fluid, level was correct and fluid color excellent. after a little more investigating this is what i found.

under light throttle, no noise.
under moderate throttle so grinding (sounds like metal on metat, but not very loud
under full throttle, lots of grinding. while maintaining full throttle, the noise comes and goes, when it goes the car accellerates harder. this confirmed that my turbo is the culprit.

i removed the intake plumbing to the turbo. with my hand i can move the impeller up and down, but not front to rear. if i look closely i can see that the impeller has had contact with the housing. when i get some time i will remove the entire turbo.

i would lilke your opinions. do we have a good source for a rebuild kit (bearings, seals, thrust washer)?

is there a "better" turbo to install. i am not opposed to mounting something else (custom mount/plumbing) if there would be a significant improvement in power and less lag.

thanks, todd
