Got a call from my daughter who is borrowing my '84 733i 5-spd while her car is repaired. It seems that while on the NYS thruway it just kept on accelerating by itself past 120mph. Pulling on the gas pedal was no help. She put the clutch in and let it out and all returned to normal just before running into someone. Pretty exciting. When and if I ever get this car back in one piece, what should I look for besides the obvious? The cruise hasn't worked in quite a while so I doubt that was it.
Before you ask, it was the same daughter who caused THIS by driving through several feet of water in the same car.

When (if) you get the car back, take a good look at the throttle cable where it leaves the cable housing above the intake manifold. There are two cables there, one for manual throttle and one for cruise control drive motor. Press throttle all the way open and examine the cable. Be sure there are no points where the cable can "hang up".

Do you think she tried to engage the cruise control and had a run away with the cruise control drive motor?

Let us know what happened.
