735i rocker arm replacement (archive)

The garage that I took my 735i to said the tapping noise was a rocker arm and needed to replace it.

The estimated price to repair was $2500. This would include replacing the rocker arm,cam,distributor,head gasket and other items I can not recall at this time. Is the price a fair one? Also, how difficult is it to do your self. I have replaced heads on a 1989 Chev PU 350v8 one time.Any help would be appreciated.
