5, 6 and 7 series cars are usually OK with a 12 to 22 mm center offset. For some strange reason BMW used 38 to 43 mm offset on most of the 3 series cars. Eth E36 wheels should be in that higher offset category. Is the offset stated. If it's the large offset, the wheel interferes with the strut (won't turn). Some people use very large spacers, running about $200 per two (2). Not advisable as it introduces another component into the front suspension.
