The estimated price to repair was $2500. This would include replacing the rocker arm, cam, distributor, head gasket and other items I can not recall at this time.

Uh, the cost is about right, but only if it includes a complete valve job, including replacing ALL the rockers, guides, valve seals, machine work, cap, rotor, oil seal, etc. But I'm a little intrigued by the distributor part, since there isn't one on a 735i.

As to doing it yourself, it really isn't that hard. Unless you have a another head sitting around, the car will be laid up a couple of weeks, getting machine shop work done, but it'll take you two weekends. One to pull it apart, those of us who've done it before can do it in a few hours. Your first time, however, will take you a long time marking things, and trying to figure out what does what, however, you WILL learn about your car. And your cost will be less than $600.
