A good habit for any car owner is to replace and bleed the DOT 3 brake fluid each year especially if in humid climates.

Brake fluid will absord moisture from the air and turn a dark color (as opposed from the clear new fluid)...this is your warning sign!!!

Use a turkey baster to slurp up the old fluid, top off with new and bleed each line independently until it runs clear. With practice its an hour or two with help.

(there are some self bleed systems out there but its a good way to coat your shop floor in fluid and potentially release air back up into the line)

Do not replace with DOT 5 Silicon (which does not absord water, but does compress slightly), this needs to be introduced into a completely new system and gaskets if you want to use it.
