Temp sensors for HVAC (archive)

I just replaced the HVAC blower motor in my 85 E23. Previously I had blocked off the outside air vacuum lines under the cowling and the main line from the vacuum pump.
When I put in the new fan motor I put in a used water control valve that seems to respond to vacuum, however all the when I try to operate the a/c in either auto or bi-level comes out of the defrost vents.
1. How can I identify the temperature sensors and their location?
2. Any other suggestions on how to resolve this problem?
3. When I clamp off the supply line from the air pump to the
water valve, it stops the pump from running but does not
change the a/c being blown out of the defroster vents.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.
I can also communicate via Instant Messenger via MSN.
Thanks,
Larry Don
