I have a line on a couple of E-23's, an 83 and a 85 both at a good price but the 85 is a thousand more. What do you think, is it that much better of a car? It probably wouldn't be our daily driver but may be the kids (with their kids in carseats) I know BMW's well but not E-23's specifically. Tell me what you think.

I have both an '81 733i and a '86 735i. The 735 is noticeably more powerful and refined. I do agree with DaleP, you will have to put money into either of them after the purchase. So if you're on a tight budget, go for the 733i. If you have a little money to play with, definitely get the 735.
