I managed to find all screws. Thanks. I wanted to check all HVAC relays because when car is first started and heater system starts working the relays "chatter" for 30 seconds or so when car is idling. It is NOT a vaccuum problem. Have now checked all relays (cleaned for good measure) and reassembled. Problem still there. I suspect it is a bad ground SOMEWHERE. I hope to find the cause over time.

Martin,

If you mean the center console where the radio is located, first remove the radio (depending on whether your radio is original or add on). Then, there are four screws at the top hidden under the rim of the dash pointing almost up. These are at the very top of the console.

Once these four screws are off, the whole console pulls towards you. You will have the cabin temp hose on the top left to deal with, then a lot of wire connections so be slow.

If you mena the console portion around the transmission know and ashtray, then, believe it or not, you have to start at the back. Remove the rear seat temperature grill looking for the little screws back there. You may have to remove any front armrests too. I did.

You will have more little screws after the rear grill and you have to remove the rear cigar lighter and electrical connections. Spray these and all electrical connections with electrical cleaner while you're there.

Remove the gear knob. There is a little tiny screw that holds the knob and you will find it on the back. Careful that you don't drob it. You will be able to see how it goes back together and if you need to drive the car without the console for more parts, you may easily put the knob back on.

You also have some screws, as I recall by the vents on each side of the front seat passenager footwells. Remove these screws. Now, lift up the parking brake part way and slide the center console out. Then, you can see, after removing the ashtray, how to remove the console around the tranny knob and covering the HVAC vacuum lines. It is easy, just time consuming.

Good luck!

Best Regards,

Randy
