If you want to try a different part, here's where I bought a cheap replacement.

Search under speedometers

I paid $35 for a cluster from a 528e (can't use that tach- redlines at under 5,000 rpm) to get an SI board and temperature/fuel gauge.

My dodgy odometer on Euro 635 was the green basis board. Tried two odometers before I got it working by changing the green board.

Rear axle rubber boot,
open clean all contacts, I/E deoxadizing
cleaner.
Drive a couple miles and see,
