I have got ABS and mine is 1983. Unfortunaly it is partaily shot. It stops working over 60mph. Just becomes ordinary brakes and the light comes on. But as you brake and slow down it works again. Haven't found a cheaper tha £400 $600 solution to repair it so it stays shot for now. The strobe ridges (like on an old fashioned record player) erode away and to my knowledge the entire wheel hub needs to be replaced.
To renewing your brakes I can only recommend to use origial parts. Every 3rd party solution has not cured the problems for long (disks). Also consider to checki the profile of tyres and wheel bearings and other links in your steering geometry. They all contribute to poor brake performance.
