In Reply to: 733i + M6 engine + 745i turbo any ideas on price? posted by James '82 733i on August 04, 2001 at 03:45:59:

While I was bored out of my mind at work, I came up with the idea of putting a M6 engine and slapping on the turbo assembly from a 745 into a normal 5spd e23 shell... now I'm, just curious of if its possible and how much it would cost if I could do it? (I thought of an e38 with a new M5 engine and tranny too, but the cost is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my league)

Thanks,
~James

James,

I toyed with that very same idea, 7 years ago. It wasnt until 1995, I turbo'ed the M88/2 motor with the same KKK unit found on the 745i. My client was a Dentist, who wanted a RaceMarque-quality(RMS) car, but didnt want the cost. I was able to put Conforti's EPROM in his Motronic, and extract 449bhp@6983RPM, with 411lbs/ft torque! The turbo M88/2 generates so much twist, we had to fabricate a spaceframe support for the unibody. The first one warped, like a wrung-out towel! I tested Lance Marshall's Alpina 745i in Fontana Raceway, 1997. The 4120lb car pulled a remarkable
1.22 on the G-meter skidpad. The 18" Alpina Softline three-piece wheels held-on to the road like rails. I also replaced the heavy 21-pound aluminum air intake Plenum, with a CF replacement I fabricated and hand-laid myself. I will post pix of this 177mph beast, once I can find the launch photos...

Zach
