My blower slowly gave out over the winter on my '86 735i. The fan doesn't work at all now. I can still switch from heat to AC, etc. and it all seems to work, but only air is that forced through car at speed...insufficient to really cool or heat the car. How do I get at the blower motor? What should I look for, test, etc., first? Anyone have pix of the procedure? Thanks.

Thanks to all of you for your responses. Some answers from me to your questions:

John,

1.) No, the fan does not work on defrost only at any fan setting, anywhere on thumbwheel.
In fact, fan sounded as if clicking, before it quit in winter. Interestingly, before it died I
remember that it blew harder, almost normal, at its highest setting, when moving in a
turn...not so turning wheel when still.

2.) I haven’t taken the cowl cover off. I took off the vent trim and removed the seven? Cowl
screws, but cowl is stuck on windshield side as if glued. Without advice or a book, I decided
not to go there. (I also wasn’t sure that I’d find the blower on that side of the firewall.)

3.) Thanks stevecots@aol.com, I’ll keep your parts offers in mind according to what I find.

4.) Thanks Walter OH 84/733i 87/325i 83/635csi Euro, I like the idea of replacing brushes,
may ask more later.

5.) Thanks Ralf Stahlmann, I think I know what you mean. All of the selector buttons seem
to work as they should. However, the blower does not. Only forced air enters car. Actually,
as I think of it, sometimes forced air comes only from defrost vents...
