Bruce is absolutely spot on with your opinion.Tank is was my wife calls it when she moans about the seven. Never said that about my 535. Had a crash with it and run into the back of a Volvo T80. (we were having a private race and he hesitated on exaliration. Before I could brake again I hit his end) Possibly with a soeed difference of only 10mph, but fast enough that the insurance wrote it of. Mainly due to the damage to the aircon system. Couldn't even buy it back. Only two weeks after it was picked up by the insurance they offered it. By then I had replacement and I had removed everything from the 5 series. So wasn't interested. Basically for local trips and to have fun on bendy roads. The 5 series anytime. If you want longer trips and more laid back driving then the 7 series is perfect. But it is considerably for sluggish and slower with the same engine mounted. On the other hand if you have to be in a crash- the 7 is even safer than the 5 series. Thats why it is so sluggish. But 2 tons of cars ask for tribute.
Mathematics on head on collosion(simplified)Add the weights of the two coliding cars. Sample don't know real weights.
Golf 800kg + 5 series 12ookg = 2000KG
devide by to for average weight = 1000kg
Calculate difference of both cars to average and determine by how much percentagewise they lay under and over the average weight. 20% each.
Add them together and it would tell you that your 5 series would sustain approx 40% less damage than the Golf. Now there are other factors. Build quality. But the basic mathematics don't change and the rest is negitable.
Do the same for the seve Series
800+2000=2800
2800/2=1400 = 75%x2=150%. 1½x more damage to the Golf than to the seven.
All these figures translate directly to the safety of the driver.
Don't be a sucker. Don't drive small Cars.
