A really cheap way for now is to pull the connector plug on the timer and wire in a switch to the fan. That way you can sit in the car for a couple of minutes and then switch it off. You can find out about which wires to use at the link below. If you need a schematic for a DIY timer, just drop me an email. BTW, you should never rely on the external fan to cool the turbo after a hot run and quick engine shut down since there is no way external cooling air can get to the red hot internals quickly enough. A proper cool down is to allow the engine to idle for a couple of minutes or to drive for the last couple of miles without the turbo. And use synthetic oil.

hi! i was going thru the archives and read an old reply u made about the VDO turbo cooling fan timer. the unit in my 745 stays on at least 30-to-45 minutes after the car has been shut down. this has been going on for a couple of months. the last two days i have been coming to a very weak battery. is there a way of repalcing this unit cheaply?????
