My car ran out of gas, and about thirty seconds later the low fuel light came on (thanks for the warning)!! I recommend that the next time it comes on fill your tank completely full and see how much gas fits in the tank. I don't trust my fuel gage anymore, I just do it the old fashioned way..... fill it every 350-400 miles

Only one way to find out for sure but you don't want to go that route unless you have a new tank etc: My 735i comes on at about an 1/8th of a tank
and my 745i comes on after car stopd with no gas.
Just rember that there is a little lip (rise)
around where the pump and or lines connect so you will not get the very last bit in the tank you you probable don't want it due to any rust/setiment sitting on bottom and rember most people overfill there tanks and therefore wonder why the first quarter tank lasts so much longer than the last quarter in tank.
