Sunroof cable alignment (archive)

Hey everyone,

I was having some sunroof problems (84 733), and a friend worked on it a bit. He couldn't help much, but in the end it was apparent the cables were misaligned.
I messed around, reinstalling the whole system, following the Benley 5-series manual. Now, the sunroof opens and shuts just fine, but in vent position (is that what it's called?) it's obviously not going up as far as it should. I figured this is a problem with alignment and the cables not pulling far enough.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, I know the guides say that the cables changed after 10/84, but the motors are the same. Will newer cables work with the old system?
