Hi all...

I'm a frequent participant on the E28 board, and I've just started clicking around here. Reason being, I've just wrecked my mint 83 5-speed 528e...and am on the prowl for another vintage Bimmer.

I have some opportunities to look at some E23s to replace my probably-deceased pride and joy. In fact, I looked at an 83 735 before I bought my last 528e (I've owned 3 528es in my life), and I really liked it. However, I waited too long and it was sold out from under me.

On to my question(s):

* What are the major differences to look for in an E23? I'm pretty familiar with E28es, but getting a bit lost looking around the E23s. Are the basic engine "parameters", etc. the same in regard to the last two numbers, i.e., 33i, 35?

* What common problems should I check for when looking @ an E23? What afflictions affect these things most? Were there any recalls?

* How easy to find are the parts? As easy as the E28s?

* Cost. Am I crazy, or are the E28s holding their value more than the E32s?? Their purchase prices seem to be less. And there doesn't seem to be as many of 'em on the road from what I see. Is that a barometer for longetivity?

I'm in uncharted territory and need words of wisdom. If I buy an E23, the car will be a daily driver and will surely be babied. But I need it to be as reliable as the E28s have been for me over the years.

In the meantime, I'll continue to click around and see what I can learn about y'all's "babies." :) THANKS VERY much in advance for any and all input. Feel free to email me.

Regards,
Rich from Philly
