Re: Car stalling (archive)

Hi I've been having a problem with my 1980, 732i over the last few weeks. It's been stalling when stopped at lights. It only seems to happen soon after starting. Like tonight I started up (hard cranking - was hot) and it stalled before I could drive off. Then started it again, more hard cranking and it stalled at first set of lights (about 100metres away). Then started and stalled about 3 times before I could drive off. Everytime I started it again I gave it heaps of revs yet i could still feel it about to stall and it would die. Next lights about 200metres down road did same thing. Finally got going and floored it whole way home. Left it idling at home for a few minutes, both in drive and park, but It idled nicely with no hint of stalling. It has also stalled on me while driving down a hill. Didn't even notice engine wasn't going until I saw revs were at 0. Please help, may car was going great until this happened, and again my mind thinks of selling. Also recently had a service will oil filter changed and fuel filter checked. Any help or advice really appreciated.

Sounds to me like a fuel delivery problem. How long has it been since you changed the fuel filter? One of your fuel pumps may be going bad. I would take a fuel pressure test.
