For all who care about the facts:

The BMW part number for the spoiler is

51 71 1 917 436. It lists an install kit which includes (but not limited to) the following:

Heavier trunk springs
A plug to fill the hole in the trunk lid


The picture shows the proper factory instalation.

There are other (aftermarket) spoilers available for the e23 which have more of the traditional upturned ducktail look.

The spoiler significantly reduced the drag indes on these cars by about 15 - 20% (if memory serves me correctly) ..... I can provide the exact numbers if anybody cares.....

(fwiw... there were two styles of factory spoilers on the 6 series ... the flat kind as seen here were used on the later versions and also the upturned duck tail used on the earlier versions.)
