I am having starting problems with my 83' 733i. I can hear the in-tank pump working. I have decided to change the fuel filter with hopes that this will help. It certainly can't hurt. Do I have to use the OEM filter or will another type work. I live on central Vancouver Island and do not have easy access to a BMW dealer.

Thanks,

Denis

No you don't. The filter is made by Bosch, not BMW. Any parts supplier should carry it as it's fairly common. If you can hear the intank pump, then most likely the filter screen on that pump is clogged. I would pull it out and clean it. They have a tendency to collect residue.
