My book on BMW history lists the BMW turbo as a BMW production. It was created as a substitute for the proposed dual M30 12 cylinder which did not make it out of the gates due to the energy crisis. A super high output powerplant was sorely needed by BMW to compete with MB's 500 class sedans.
