V12 or V8 into older 3 or 5 series (archive)

Does any one know of anyone fitting 5l V12 or 4l V8 into
an E28 or E30
appparantly in NZ theres a guy who has retro fitted a V12 with a 6 speed M3 gearbox into a 1986-88 3 series ,for the sole purpose to enter it into the targa rally of NZ (time trail on sealed country roads),lot's of different cars enter.
