How to determine if fuel pumps are good? (archive)

Obviously, the car runs so at least 1 pump works. Do I disconnect the inlet to the fuel filter, then turn the ignition key on momentarily to check for fuel flow? Just thinking of other things. BTW, the car seems to accelerate hard when the kickdown it depressed.
