Relay provides two functions. With key on but engine not started, ground is applied to "A" light in dash. Light comes on. When engine starts, relay is energized, "A" light shuts off and 12 volts is applied to the 12 volt bus for the solenoids. Grounding of the relay coil circuit is done inside the DME box. Thuis if "A" does not turn off, you have a problem. Likewise, if Control box senses a problem with the solenoid circuits, it deenergizes the relay and the "A" light comes on.

The E, S, 1,2,3, switch is not part of the relay carcuit.

Good thougth,
but have a question, as I recall the relay
is mainly for the overide switch
IE default mode on or of.
