Car won't start in Park (archive)

My '86 L7 won't start in park. When I try to start in park I get absolutely nothing - no click, nothing! I must put into Neutral to start it and it always starts perfect. Another board member said it was the TDC and RPM sensors. I just want to make sure it isn't something else before I drop $180 in new parts. What device/system prevents the car from starting in Reverse or Drive? I have a feeling the car believes the car is in reverse when it is actually in park and it is a safety of some sort. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Fife
