Worth checking all vacuum lines under hood for small cracks, particularly near "T" pieces and other connectors. Small nicks in the hoses actually become more pliable and open up when warm. Had a similar problem, with 3 holes in all, and one no larger than a pin hole - but they all added up to poor performance.

I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW WHAT MAY BE CAUSING MY 85 745i TO RUN VERY WELL, (ALL THINGS CONSIDERED), WHEN IT IS 85 DEGREES OR COOLER. IF THE OUTSIDE TEMP GOES ABOVE 85, THE CAR WILL HARDLY IDLE, IT SURGES UNTIL YOU BLOW IT OUT VIA A TRIP TO THE FLOORBOARD WITH THE ACCELERATOR. THE CAR SMELLS RICH AND SMOKES BLACK OCCASIONALLY (BARELY VISIBLE). I WILL TELL YOU I AM NO PRO AT BMW'S YET. THIS IS MY FIRST AND THIS CAR IS ALL IN GERMAN. I HAVE HAD NO GUIDANCE, EXCEPT FOR YOU FINE GENTS, OTHER THAN AN OWNERS MANUAL. THERE IS SOME WAY FUNKY VACUUM HAPPENING UNDER MY HOOD AND I NEED HELP. SINCERELY RUSTY
