Hi everyone,

Before i dismount and try to sand and restore the interior wood...

- What paint products or special brand is recommended?
- Can this be done without having to take out the wood ?
- should i sand it before? What Sand paper ?

.. any kind of help is very appreciated..

Ian,

I can't take the credit for my success as John Stein shared his sources with me. The secret is to get all of the original clear lacquer off. It is difficult to do without sanding.

Try Formby's Paint & Poly Remover. Let it sit on the wood for at least an hour whilst making sure it doesn't dry out. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove glop. Wash down with 000 steel wool doused with Formby's Paint & Poly Remover Wash. Repeat until all orig finish is removed. Sand carefully with 0000 steel wool.

Use Minwax Gel Stain for color. Color is your choice, I used Cherrywood. Wipe on & off. It doesn't take much.

Finish with 5 coats of Minwax Polycrylic Semi-Gloss. Sand with the finest (0000 or finer) between coats. After sanding buff with terry cloth prior to next coat.

It easy to get bubbles in the clear coat. Go slow. Good luck.
